Identity

Welcome

This site is intended to help provide useful background and technical resources for people interested in OpenID and Identity 2.0 Technologies.

Introduction

Users benefit from Identity 2.0 with fewer passwords to remember and increased control over their digital identity.
Developers benefit from Identity 2.0 with higher conversion rates and less user information to manage.

About the Technology

OpenID is an easy-to-use, user-centric identity protocol. It is a community-driven, open protocol. In the summer of 2006 a number of identity related software projects were released under the Apache Heraldry project.

CardSpace is a desktop-centric identity protocol that is directly integrated into Windows Vista. It is developed by Microsoft and is being ported to other Mac OS X and *nix by open source developers.

Getting Started

The Rails OpenID Server, developed by EastMedia and VeriSign is a profile management server that can provide full Open ID 1.1 and Yadis services. It is open source and easy to install.
The Consumer Plugin for Ruby on Rails applications was also developed by EastMedia and VeriSign. This plugin provides Open ID Consumer functionality, allowing any Rails app to accept Open ID logins (i.e. becoming a Relying Party) with the absolute minimum of effort.
Many Other Environments are supported, allowing all developers to join in Open ID.
